JUST BE THANKFUL!

Yesterday a friend was telling me about her trip to the eye doctor.  She told the Dr. that there were times when he had a difficult time seeing clearly and wanted to see if her prescription had changed.  After examining her eyes the Dr. began to ask questions as Dr.s often do.  She began to describe her work, her children, her commitments, and that she was often exhausted at the end of the day.  The Dr. told my friend that our sight is in our mind.  When our minds are tired we often don’t see clearly.  He told my friend that she needed to get some rest!

We indeed lose the ability to focus when we are bone weary.  Our eyes are the outward viewer of our bodies and our souls are the inward viewer.  Our souls need rest so that we can keep our focus on Christ.  Worship gives our souls rest.  God’s word gives our souls rest.  Praise and thanksgiving gives our souls the rest they need.  Jesus’ practice was to get up early, leave the house, go to a solitary place and pray.  (Mark 1;35) Meditating on God’s Word can do much in regards to changing our attitude even when our bodies are exhausted.

Today, as we prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, I’m choosing to post a few scriptures on thankfulness.  I’m praying that each of us will use this opportunity to find a little rest for our souls and retreat into the heart of our loving heavenly Father.

Colossians 3:15
"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."

Colossians 4:2
"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful."

1 Corinthians 1:4
"I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus."

2 Corinthians 9:11
"You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God."

1 Timothy 4:4-5
"For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer."

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:6-7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him and He will give you the desires of your heart. (Mendelssohn’s Elijah)

Blessings,
