Revelation 21:3-5

And I heard a great voice out of Heaven, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them; and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them and be their God.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.”

And He that sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said unto me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”

These scriptures are some of the most familiar known to a Christian.  These words will be spoken for the last time as God brings time to a close and this world and everything and everyone in it steps into eternity.  It may be the only time in history that we say goodbye to our old world, our old lives indeed everything that we now know and we do it without tears or sorrow or pain.

We all know it is hard to say goodbye.  Gloria Gaynor sang about it as did the Jackson 5.  Saying good bye to a loved one, a friend, a job always leaves us a bit unsettled at best and a total basket case for some.  We are reluctant to leave or say goodbye to something that we are familiar.  Sometimes it’s a familiar restaurant.  I was in Enid Ok when a local haunt, “Tijuana’s” closed.  The restaurant had been an establishment in Enid for 40 years and the cockroaches were regular customers along with a great chicken fried steak.  The owners got tired and none of their family wanted to carry on the tradition (or pay for the costly redo).  Many people lamented that their favorite spot closed.  People were very sad, but they didn’t go hungry.  No one that I am aware, stopped eating or stopped eating out for that matter.

The truth of the matter is, even while we are grieving in our goodbyes God is preparing something infinitely better than that which we are grieving.  We lose a job and find one that suits us even better.  We say goodbye to being fat and find a thinner version of ourselves.  We say goodbye to a friend and God sends us another.  While we are always sad to say goodbye, we have to remember to let go.  When we truly let go we find that God is giving us an opportunity to say hello to something else.  Many of the things to which we say goodbye were never ours, fully ours to begin with.  Most friends are for a season.  God uses them in a significant way, but then the season changes.  God has someone or something for that next season. Trust Him and see if He isn’t able to do more abundantly than you can imagine.

Blessings in your season,

Marty
