Minister of Music & Ministerial Assistant

Rev. Doug Thompson

Doug Thompson is a Carolina foothills boy who grew up in Lenoir, North Carolina. From earliest childhood the church community played a prominent part of his upbringing and he began to understand the importance of having a relationship with Jesus Christ. During a revival he accepted Jesus into his heart and began his walk with Christ.

Now, this walk was to take him places he never dreamed of. After completing high school he started college at Mars Hill College concentrating in music. But after the first year he struggled with what he really wanted to do with his life. After finishing a second year of college at a community college he joined the Army, serving in Germany for 3 years. After returning home he attended Appalachian State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education – but upon graduation he was offered an Active Duty commission back into the Army and for 6 more years he served as a Military Intelligence Officer. During this time God was working and shaping him for something more important. In 1987 he resigned his commission, enrolled in seminary and returned to the music field. In 1988 he began his ministry in church music, serving here at Cedar Falls Baptist Church, then Wrightsville Beach, Albemarle, Raleigh and Chapel Hill and now returning to Cedar Falls.

Doug’s vision for Music is that music is a total ministry. It is not the goal to be exceptional musicians, but rather exceptional Christians who share Christ through the medium of music. All people enjoy the gift of music – while some are able to share it, others simply enjoy the music inside themselves. God calls us all to make a joyful noise and praise Him! It is his prayer that all people will know the love of God through music!

Doug is married to Sharon, and has one son Jon. He enjoys fishing, camping, motorcycles and working outdoors.
