Jerry Vaughan is a good friend and mentor that God blessed me with. Has over the years encouraged me to let God’s Word lead and direct me. I don’t often put as much scripture in my blog, however, there are times when only God’s Word can adequately challenge and direct us. This past Sunday our Pastor, Dr. Bruce Martin, retired/resigned. Although I’m aware of many of the reasons that precipitated this event, I am still left a bit off kelter. I was looking forward to serving with Dr. Martin here at Cedar Falls Baptist Church and seeing what God would do through him, through us all. In Dr. Martin’s final sermon, he reminded the church that even as time relentlessly marches forward, this church is moving forward. We cannot and must not attempt to dam up the blessings of God and even as rivers don’t flow backward neither does Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? This week understandably has been one of much soul searching. I have been led to scripture over and over and reminded of my calling to ministry and the purpose of that call. We are also at the very beginning stages of building a house and we are looking at the house plans and trying to figure out what we need and what we want or desire. The number one thing to remember at times like this is “going to God in the morning and be reminded of His unfailing love” Ps 143:8. There are days when it might seem that God is at a distance and not really concerned with what I’m dealing with right now. When these days come, and they will, it then become my responsibility to seek God, not the other way around. The psalmist is begging God to send word of His unfailing love. Rather than sit around waiting for God to move, we need to see God first.

Second, we need to remind ourselves that God hasn’t brought us here to watch us fail. Commit your way to the Lord, For I know the plan I have for you, Humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps, all these words from scripture remind us that God is indeed intimately involved with our plans. If you’re like me, you don’t want to do a big project only for a temporal reward, rather, you are motivated by the eternal blessing of God. Realizing that what you are doing matters not just today but for eternity. If we are a small cog in God’s eternal plan, one stitch in His perfect tapestry do you think He would let that cog or stitch occur randomly? No, He is waiting for just the right time and the right place to make everything happen.

Third, plan well and get expert advice. Suppose a man builds a tower, Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? Or, Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. How about, many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Even as we plan and prepare remember that God is giving the increase. We need always pray, “Lord, grant me the strength and grace to be faithful to do my part and we will rejoice in the outcome You give us.”

As we plan, as we execute, we know that God is blessing in all and through all.

Blessings,

Marty

We must not dam up the blessings of God! I love that!! I need to remind myself that HE is still abundantly working in my life and the life of CFBC!! Even though I’m so sad that the Martin’s are no longer at CFBC I’m so very thankful of the time he and Brenda were with us sharing God’s word!! We must march on with God as our lead!!

Great blog Marty!!! Right now we needed to hear some encouraging words. God is in the house and we need to work as hard as we can to reach as many as we can.
