God’s Sense of Humor

I know for a fact that God has a sense of humor because I’m typing this blog with a glove on my finger to keep blood of the keyboard.  You see, I was using a knife this morning.  For me that a bit like running through the house with scissors. This was a particularly deep cut and I bled and am bleeding like a stuck pig.

I was helping Ronda get ready for a catering gig.  Blood and food is a no no.  hence the glove.  Someone in the office commented on this and I remarked, “I guess God thought that I needed a cut today!”  then I remembered,

1 Thessalonians 5:18

New International Version

18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Believe it or not, I stopped to thank God for this circumstance. After that, I began to think of other things I have been going through 6 deaths of friends and family in 6 weeks, the pastor leaving to go to another church, my daughter’s wedding, my son’s engagement, upcoming Christmas music and Christmas Eve service, building a house, estrangement from friends and family for various reasons. I might say “Why?”  God says in all things.  That is so funny, right?  Looking at that list there are a few downright awesome things on that list, but others . . . . Here’s the thought that keeps resounding in my brain.   These are God’s very best plans for me, right now, at this time of my life.

Last week, Ronda and I were cooking or baking and one of us, (maybe me) did something obnoxious and irritating.  Instead of reacting in anger, I made light of the situation and we both just laughed until we cried.  I think God was laughing too.  He enjoyed the moment that we used stress to bring laughter in a tense situation, another example of the blessed sense of humor of God.  Sometimes tears are necessary, like when my friend Jim died suddenly at home this past Sunday.  But I was able to laugh with his wife later in the week over the explicit funeral instructions Jim left in his bible, especially that the service would be no longer than 39 minutes, Thank you God for a little joy in the middle of that situation.

Life throws hard balls sometimes.  God is always there and can help a little light shine through when you need it.  Look up, and look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our Faith.  He’s there, always and especially, right now.

Blessings, (as I hunt and peck)
